Real Estate & Finance Law

We represent owners, lenders, developers, lessors and lessees of commercial, industrial, resort and residential real estate in Hawaii. Our work includes drafting and negotiating acquisition, financing, leasing, and development (subdivisions, condominiums and timeshares) documentation, along with procuring land use and other governmental approvals and permits.

We represent one of Hawaii’s largest institutional landowners, Queen Emma Land Company (fka The Queen Emma Foundation), in connection with a wide range of its real estate activities, including acquisitions, sales and leasing.

We represent several national lenders in connection with their commercial and community lending activities in Hawaii. We have extensive experience in drafting and negotiating loan documents, and in coordinating the closing of complex financing transactions for real estate developments, construction loans, term loans and other secured transactions. In addition, we represent the most prolific lender in Hawaii of USDA Rural Development guaranteed loans.

We also have significant experience in the finance and development of affordable housing and government-sponsored projects, including projects involving federal and state low-income housing tax credits (representation of lenders and developers), Hawaiian Home Lands (representation of lenders and developers), and Housing and Community Development Corporation of Hawaii (representation of developers).
