Wil Yamamoto is a Member of the firm, representing energy developers, traditional energy clients, and other commercial clients with complex transactions, commercial agreements, and obtaining approvals from Hawaii regulators. Wil is particularly focused on helping national and Hawaii energy developers to plan, build, and/or operate renewable, alternative, and traditional energy projects such as advanced solar power, wind power, battery energy storage, pumped storage hydro, biomass, and biofuels. Wil’s experience extends to all aspects of energy development, including power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, financing, EPC and construction contracts, equipment contracts, governmental approvals, and zoning and permitting. Wil also represents business owners, non-profit organizations, and renewable energy contractors looking to contract and install solar on commercial buildings and/or property. Wil was selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© 2021, 2022, and 2023 for work in Energy Law, Utilities Law, and Administrative/Regulatory Law. Wil works with both major corporations and small businesses alike, adopting approaches that achieve client goals in practical and efficient ways. Wil’s years of handling complex commercial development, commercial disputes, and administrative proceedings give him an edge when providing clients with strategic legal advice, dealing with complex issues, and advocating for clients before government regulators. Over the years, Wil has helped energy clients with development strategy and in dealings with Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island, and Kauai’s electric utilities and the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission, as well as Federal, State, and County agencies. He has also represented large and small developers and business owners through a myriad of development, construction, and operational issues, as well as real property, permitting, environmental, and water rights issues. Wil has been practicing law for over two decades and is licensed to practice in the State of Hawaii, the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii, and U.S. Territory of Guam. Wil earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California, San Diego, and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Hawaii, Richardson School of Law.
